IELTS Writing Task 2 GT - Sample 130
It is important that we maintain and protect the beautiful buildings of the past, even if it is expensive for countries to do so. Do you agree or disagree?
Preservation of historical buildings is undeniably important regardless of the large budget they require to be maintained. I totally agree with this point of view because such buildings are a country`s cultural and historical heritage. Although many of them do not serve any specific function, they are architecturally a valuable source.
To begin with, most countries have an organization or especial group to take care of such sites, so this fact proves the importance of old buildings. Every nation`s historical background is somewhat tied to the presence of this pompous old structures. Unique architecture and especial materials which were used to create such sites are always remarkable and they are worth studying. The important point is that next generations have the right to see such architectural masterpieces. If preservation of old buildings is ignored because of the expenses, there may not be anything left that we could be honored for.
Added to this, many of beautiful historical structures are considered tourist attractions. Annually, countless number of travelers visit historical sites and this is a considerable source of income for a country. For instance, an old castle under the name of Burnt Castle which dates back to 200 years BC is located in northwest of Iran. This ancient castle has the largest number of tourists every year In Iran. Therefore, it is easily understandable that apart from the historical value of these buildings, they portray a country`s rich civilization and also they are sources of revenue. The money which is earned by attracting visitors could be allocated to protect such sites, so the financial burden of keeping them safe would not be on certain organizations or even governments.
As it was discussed above, beautiful buildings of the past are countries both cultural and historical legacy. Therefore, maintaining them is essential, especially for next generations. Required allocation in order to preserve them could be compensated by attracting more visitors.
