IELTS Writing Task 1 GT - Sample 126
You recently stayed in a hotel in a large city. The weather was very unusual for the time of year and the heating / cooling system in the hotel was quite inadequate. Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter:
- give details of what went wrong
- explain what you had to do to overcome the problem at the time
- say what action you would like the manager to take
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to complain about my unpleasant experience in your hotel last week.
After having read great reviews about Holiday Inn Chain Hotels on Tripadvisor.com, my family and I made a reservation at your establishment for a 4 day vacation in Dubai. Our stay started on June 21st and ended on June 25th.
Dubai’s weather is usually hot and humid at this time of the year, but surprisingly, the entire four days were windy and a bit chilly for our taste. Once we checked in the room 372, we found the place a little too cold, especially for our 3 year-old daughter. We turned on the conditioner and adjusted it on the heating mode and waited for about an hour, but no luck. Then we contacted the front desk and the receptionist said she would have someone take care of it right away. A man came upstairs and tried everything from the remote control to the conditioner panel but could not fix the problem. It turned out that he was not the technician. Apparently, the technician was on sick leave himself and there was nobody else to turn to. Anyhow, we had to tolerate the low room temperatures for the rest of our trip; and even bought some warm clothes for our daughter to help her sleep at night.
I am terribly disappointed at your hotel’s poor handling of the situation. Therefore, I would have to ask for a full refund of my 600 dollars.
I hope this would erase the shocking experience we had at your internationally prestigious hotel. There are records of our complaints to your staff, all logged in the front desk computer system; which will corroborate all we went through during those 4 days.
Yours Faithfully,
Salar Ahmadi
